General Guidelines
- the Library Resource Centre has been designated a teaching area
by school administration, which means that classes are given priority
access to space and resources during all periods (yes, even
lunch periods!)
- the Library staff have full authority to prioritize facility,
resource and equipment use as they deem necessary
- cutting and pasting for poster work is permitted on the stipulation
that the workspace is completely cleaned after use -- a valid student
card is held until this condition has been satisfied
- students are admitted for quiet study, research, and recreational
reading when space permits
- please socialize with your friends in the cafeteria, the atrium or
outside
- no food or drinks (with the exception of
water and only if that is not near any computers) are allowed in the library
- any overheads to be used in the photocopier must be purchased
from the library immediately before use
- a video viewing centre is available for student use. This is to be
used for academic purposes only
- all knapsacks must be carefully stowed
either on top or under tables to avoid obstructing traffic - for safety, aisles
may never be blocked
Borrowing Materials
- students are encouraged to use the library's resources often for
both school and recreational purposes
- items held on book carts are set aside for class use and must remain
in the library
- resources may be signed out and/or renewed
on a valid student card only -- any fines,
damages or lost item charges will be incurred by the person to whom
the material has been signed out
- borrowing is limited to 3 books per topic / type (eg. fiction) to a
maximum of 4 items in total
- unless otherwise limited by an classroom teacher the loan periods
are 2 weeks for books and overnight for other media formats (eg. video
& CDs) -- however items may be renewed
- resources must be present in order to be
renewed
- fines for books are $0.25 per day per item
- fines for CDs or videos are $1.00 per day per item
- damages are generally charged at half the cost of the item except
when that item is newly circulated
- borrowing privileges will be suspended until fines / damages are
paid
Computer Usage
- full compliance with the school's computer
policy (as written in the
Student Agenda) is strictly enforced -- this includes but is not exclusive
to:
- no games, social emails, chats,
messaging, downloads (except for executables such as Acrobat to
read .pdf files), or any illegal copying
- no external devices (eg./ laptops) to be
attached to any school network
- no sharing of logins
- 29
networked library computers are available for general use while 2
others are for catalogue searches only
- students in a scheduled library class have priority access to
computers
- there is a maximum of two students allowed at one computer station
- because of high demand, students must be using the
computer for an assignment as directed by a teacher and may be asked
to provide proof of this
